Sweet mama seeking fresh start and love!SELMA NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!! Name: Selma Best Guess for Breed: Lab mix Best Guess for Age: 3 years as of March 2024 SEX: Female Approximate Weight: 30 lbs Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven't seen her with kids or cats but she can be tested Currently Living at: South Carolina shelter; needs a foster or forever home in the DC area to get her freedom ride up here Special adoption considerations: Selma is heartworm positive, but this Lucky Dog got extra lucky! They are part of a groundbreaking study we are conducting at our South Carolina Rescue Campus that has the potential to change the way shelters across the United States treat heartworm positive dogs. All dogs in the study will be placed at random, in either the 2 shot or 3 shot protocol with strictly monitored protocols in place. Four weeks following their final injection, this pup will be eligible to transport to the DC area for placement in foster or adoptive care. Post treatment, we will work with adopters to arrange a free follow up heartworm test 6 months after treatment concludes, followed by a second test at 9 months. Selma is Looking For: This sweetie arrived into our care and gave birth to seven puppies on March 22. She did an amazing job of raising her babies and they're off to get their own forever homes. Then she had to go through heartworm treatment. Through it all - she's just been a sweet girl, eagerly awaiting her next chapter. The one where she gets her own humans for long sniffy walks, romps in the park, and all the adventures they can dream up. The one where she gets quality kibble and a cushy dog bed. And above all - the one where she knows she's safe and loved and under her own roof for all her days. In exchange, she has quite the stockpile of adoring gazes and happy tail wags to offer her new humans. And incredibly loyal companionship and all the love in her little body (she's a pretty awesome size, perfect heft for cuddling). What do you say? Are you Selma's new chapter? All of our dogs are working on their crate training. TO ADOPT: The adoption fee for this dog is $475, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations, spay/neuter, and heartworm treatment. The individual responsible for the dog you are interested in adopting - a position we call the “adoption coordinator” - will then set up a time to discuss your application over the telephone. The adoption coordinator will check your vet reference to make sure all current and past pets were kept up-to-date with their shots and medical care. The adoption coordinator will also set up a home visit with one of our trained volunteers. That individual will come to your home to ensure that it is a safe environment, to confirm that everyone in the home is on board with adopting a dog, and to discuss any other questions you may have about dog adoption!Shelter locationOur adoption events are held each weekend.
